Emmett Brewer

Where do you live? Austin, Texas.

Current company and position? Student at the University of Texas at Austin.

First job and what it taught me? I served as a High School Volunteer for the Texas Dept. of Information Resources. My internship helped me to develop my professional communication skills and taught me the intricacies of the Texas government with respect to the state's digital infrastructure and cybersecurity posture.

How do you embrace your Irish heritage? I am an active member of my local Ancient Order of Hibernians division (Travis County Division #1, Austin TX). I enjoy celebrating my Irish heritage by participating in and assisting with the local social events that we put on.

Something people would be surprised to know about me… is that my family has a long history of membership in the AOH. My third-great-grandfather and second-great-grandfather were officers in their local AOH division in Galveston, Texas, and they also served as state officers for the organization during the late 1800's and early 1900’s. Ten years ago, my parents helped to re-establish the AOH and LAOH divisions in Austin, allowing me to deeply engage with Austin's Irish community. My father, who is also a member of the AOH division for Austin, Texas, has held some of the same officer roles that my ancestors held at the state level.

Emmett is a sixth-generation member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, an organization with which his family and ancestors have deep connections.
