Amber McCulloch
Where do you live? Aurora, Colorado.
Current company and position? I work independently as an audiobook narrator for multiple different authors, with my titles all available through Audible. I am also the primary parent for our three special needs children, our five-year-old son and our three-year-old twins, and an active advocate for patients with rare liver diseases like myself.
First job and what it taught me? I was a fitting room attendant at American Eagle at the Park Meadows Mall when I was fifteen years old. It taught me how to find and compliment the unique beauty in every person, how to be patient, how to be prudent with when to speak up and when to hold my opinions, and the importance of a smile and a kind word in every encounter.
How do you embrace your Irish heritage? The two biggest things that I do to embrace my Irish heritage is participate in my local Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians chapter and continue my studies of the Irish language. I currently have my A2 certification in the TEG in the Irish language, and hope to continue my studies through at least B2 proficiency in the next decade. Through my local LAOH I march in the annual St. Patrick's Day parade, attend regular heritage masses, share family memories and take opportunities with other Irish-Americans in my area to learn about the ways in which our own families passed down the memories of the diaspora to today. I pass these memories to my own children as well.
Something people would be surprised to know about me... I am autistic, and I have been line dancing near weekly since I was twelve years old. While not directly related, the routines and patterns of the dance form are regulating to my neurotype, and I am very good at picking up new dances because of my autistic pattern recognition!
