Rockland GAA knocks it out of the park with annual Field Day

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. — The grounds of the Rockland Gaelic Athletic Association came alive on Saturday, July 11, as hundreds of members, families, and friends gathered for the club's annual Field Day, a daylong celebration of Gaelic games, Irish music, and community spirit that ran from 9 a.m. until well into the night.

Under the leadership of Chairman Niall McKenna and Vice Chairman Niall Smith, and with Ann Nally, Manager of Gaelic Hospitality overseeing a tireless volunteer crew, the day ran like clockwork from the first whistle to the final song.

Competition took center stage as players of all ages showcased the best of Gaelic games. The club's youngest athletes opened the day with the U6 Go Games, followed by the Annual U8 Dennis McHugh Memorial Tournament, where the energy and heart on display had the sidelines roaring.

The marquee competition of the day, the Robert McKiernan Cup, saw teams battle through the Men's Football 7-a-side Tournament in a series of high-intensity matches marked by skill and sportsmanship.

Off the field, the atmosphere resembled a family reunion on a grand scale. Live music began at 1 p.m. and continued throughout the day, with performances by the Pearl River School of Irish Music, School of Rock, Ailish Ferry & Co., The Amadans, Celtic Cross, Cousins Moran, and a rousing closing set from The Narrowbacks.

Inside the clubhouse, crowds gathered to watch the All-Ireland Football Championship semifinal and the FIFA World Cup quarterfinal matches on the big screens, while Nally's hospitality team kept everyone fed and welcomed.

Scholars and Winners

Among the proudest moments of the day was the announcement of this year's RGAA Scholarship recipients, Lorelai Ryan and Dylan O'Flynn, two young members who embody the values of the club on and off the pitch.

"Events of this scale are built on months of planning and a deep-rooted love of community," said Chairman Niall McKenna. "The club extends its thanks to the army of volunteers, coaches, parents, and players who made the 2026 Field Day a triumph — and looks forward to doing it all again next year."
