Enda Walsh.

Origin festival to honor Walsh

Origin Theatre Company, now led by theater producers Labhaoise Magee and Aidan Cleary, has announced that the 2026 Origin Irish Theatre Festival will take place from Tuesday, June 16 to Sunday, July 5.  The theater company responsible for introducing the work of over 300 Irish and European playwrights to New York audiences since its founding in 2002, will honor the Tony Award®-winning playwright Enda Walsh ("Once," “Disco Pigs,” "Lazarus"), spotlighting his groundbreaking body of work while celebrating the extraordinary legacy that began with his American debut at Origin over two decades ago.

In addition to four staged readings; a concert of songs from Walsh’s plays and films; a movie marathon of Walsh-scripted films, and a gala toasting Walsh, Origin will produce a mainstage revival of Origin's first play "Misterman,” a work that has, since 2002, achieved global acclaim, including a celebrated production starring Cillian Murphy at St. Ann’s Warehouse in New York City.  The Off-Broadway production of “Misterman,” directed by Origin’s artistic director (and Derry native) Labhaoise Magee, “marks a powerful homecoming for both the play and the company.”

The Off-Broadway revival of “Misterman” runs for two weeks from Tuesday, June 23 through Sunday, July 5, 2026, at a theatre to be announced, with an opening on Thursday, Jun 25.

A gala benefit honoring Enda Walsh will take place at the American Irish Historical Society, 991 Fifth Avenue, on Monday, June 29.

Tickets for the newly renamed 2026 Origin Irish Theatre Festival (formerly Origin 1st Irish), including the Origin Gala, will go on sale on Monday, May 4.  Festival locations to be announced soon. For info, visit www.origintheatre.org.
