The Lansdowne Yonkers squad ahead of their 4-0 win in the round of 16.

4-0 win puts Lansdowne into quarterfinals

Tournament winners in 2017 and 2021, Lansdowne Yonkers came away from New Bedford, Mass., with a 4-0 romp over hosts South Coast Union last weekend to advance to the quarterfinals of the USASA National Amateur Cup.

Nicolas Macri Badessich starred for the Bhoys against their United Premier Soccer League [UPSL] opponents with a brace and an assist.

The attacking midfielder drew first blood from a Seamus Keogh corner, then forced a South Coast own goal from a low cross.

He bagged his second goal – and Lansdowne’s third – with a booming left-footed effort from 20 yards in the second half, before Danú Kinsella Bishop closed the show from 10 yards.

“Positive result and it came from an excellent second half, where we upped our game,” said head coach Matt Kane.

The victory earned the Bhoys an April 25 date in the last eight against the winner of the Round of 16 tie between Loco Gunners and a team from the NPSL.

Lansdowne qualified for the National Amateur Cup by reaching the Manning Cup final. They will contest that silverware with Greek side Leros FC this spring.

The National Cup is one of several trophies that Lansdowne, the most successful Irish club States-side, is pursuing this season.

They are also in contention for a fourth National Fricker Cup that they previously bagged in 2017,  2019  and 2021. Then there’s the APSL Metropolitan Conference title and, ultimately, the APSL championship.

In the APSL, Lansdowne [11-2-2, 35] blanked Doxa SC 2-0 in their most recent fixture to stay on first-place NY Greek Americans’ heels in the Metropolitan Conference.  Marco Charnas and Ali Dawha were on target at Tibbetts Brook Park.
