The Irish Family History Forum will kick off its fall program on Saturday morning, Sept. 20, with a presentation entitled "Researching the Irish Schools' Collection." Guest speaker Jill Williams, a Vice President of the Irish Genealogical Society based in Dublin, will speak about the late 1930s program in the Irish Free State in which more than 50,000 children in 5,000 primary schools were enlisted to collect folklore in their home districts. They collected oral histories, topographical information, folktales and legends, riddles and proverbs, games and pastimes, trades and crafts.
This will be a hybrid meeting with Forum members having the option to join via Zoom, while the general public can attend in person at 10 a.m at the Freeport Memorial Library, at 144 West Merrick Road, Freeport, NY 11520. For full details, go to www.ifhf.org.
