New York complete hat-trick of All Ireland junior titles

New York 0-20 London 2-13

This new JFC format where mostly it is teams from outside Ireland involved has been something of a Godsend for New York who have now won the last three finals and who showed great resolve -- particularly in the semi-final to ensure they were still alive to play for and complete the hat-trick of titles at Croke Park on Sunday.

In the semi-final against UK-based Warwickshire on Friday evening Mick Healy's charges turned a three-point interval deficit into a four-point winning margin.

And so to the final on All Ireland senior football semi-final weekend when Rockland’s finest, Brian Coughlan, strutted his wares that his performance would not have been out of place at a higher level.

The Big Apple sharpshooter landed nine points as his side emerged victorious by the minimum margin against London in a pulsating denouement to the junior series which saw two victories in less than 48 hours on Irish soil.

Having previously proved the match winner, as in two years ago, this time around, it was sub Emmet Loughran with two second half points and Lorcan Kennedy who emerged from the pack to land the winning score with just two minutes remaining. New York had shown great resolve and with two Gearodid Kennedy two-pointers helping their tally, they edged this final against a very determined London outfit who got in for two goals to keep them in the picture when New York threatened to kick on.
