The exodus of top women footballers to Aussie Rules continues with another quartet signing for Australian clubs last week. Geelong Cats have signed Waterford All-Star and captain Emma Murray. Her signing takes the number of Irish players on Geelong’s books to four, joining Rachel Kearns, Kate Kenny and Aishling Moloney. Meanwhile, Tyrone’s Aoife Horisk has joined Melbourne after starring in Tyrone’s All-Ireland Intermediate final win over Laois this summer. She was the fastest woman in the 20-meter sprint at October’s AFLW Draft Combine and is seen by the club as an aggressive half-forward with the potential to move to high forward. Cork dual star Aoife Healy has signed for the Fremantle Dockers on a two-year rookie deal. She lined out at centre back on the Cork camogie team which lost this year’s All-Ireland final to Galway. And Cavan’s Ellie Brady has committed to Collingwood as a rookie for two years. Hailing from Ballyhaise, Brady helped her county to an Ulster Intermediate title this year.
CAMOGIE APPOINT
DESSAIN-GELINET
With talks ongoing to finalize the merger between the GAA and the Camogie and Ladies Gaelic football associations, new CEOs have been appointed in the Camogie and Ladies football associations. A few weeks back the Ladies Association announced that former Louth player Lyn Savage would replace the long-serving Helen O’Rourke as their CEO. And last week the Camogie Association confirmed the appointment of former Meath player Karen Dessain-Gelinet as its new CEO. She takes up the role after 15 years working in the global technology sector, most recently serving as a director of customer support at software company HubSpot and will replace Sinead McNulty, who stepped down from the role at the end of September.
