O'Bradaigh to bring his 'A game'

Sean O'Bradaigh is locked and loaded ahead of his SBC Elite Men’s light heavyweight amateur boxing title match with the Bronxchester BC’s Adrian Frometa at the Stereo Garden, located at 9 Railroad Ave., Patchogue, Long Island, this Saturday.

O'Bradaigh is one of the top 176-pounders in the nation while Frometa is the New York Metropolitan champion.

“Training's been good,” O'Bradaigh told the Echo on Monday. “I trained all seven days this week, running every other day, three sparring sessions this week [and] you know, the usual bag work, pad work,  jumping rope, speed bag, double-ended bag; things like that.”

O'Bradaigh has also spent time watching fight tapes of Fromenta on YouTube and has a good idea of the foe he faces.

“I’ve watched a few fights from before COVID. He’s a sleek boxer, he's got some good skills, good footwork, does a good job, so I expect more of a boxing match less of a brawl, which I like. I'm usually good with those type of fights,” said the 21-year-old New York University senior.

“I like to, you know, match my skill with someone else’s so I'm definitely excited and I expect this to be the Ringmasters final in April at the Garden, as well I think him and I are the two best light heavyweights in the city right now and yeah – I’m excited. I think it's gonna be a good match up and I'm gonna bring my ‘A’ game so it's gonna be good.”

The doors for Saturday’s card open at 5 p.m., with the first fight at 6 p.m.  Visit www. strongislandfights.com for ticket information.

O'Bradaigh goes into the fight as the New York Boxing Tournament Elite light heavyweight champion. He also bagged the 2023 Ring Masters/Golden Gloves middleweight novice titlist. In addition to that, he was a top four finisher at the National Championships in Texas last summer. That earned him an invitation to the Olympic trials in Colorado and, later, a wild card shot.

In between those two trials, O'Bradaigh, whose father has Dublin roots, participated in the National Elite Championships in Dublin with a spot on the Irish team to Paris beckoning. He lost to European light heavyweight titlist Gabriel Dossen in the semi-finals.
