Busy St. Patrick's Week for Martin

Tánaiste Micheál Martin will have a busy itinerary this week as he arrives in the U.S. for the annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Mr. Martin, who also serves as the Minister for Foreign Affairs, will be in New York and Boston from Monday to mark St. Patrick’s Day. This year, 36 representatives of Ireland are bringing Ireland’s message to 70-plus cities in 41 countries around the world and in a St. Patrick's season that will see over 850 official events taking place.

The Tánaiste’s program will include his attendance and participation in New York City‘s St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Friday.

Throughout his time in New York, the Tánaiste will hold meetings with Enterprise Ireland and Irish Development Authority clients and stakeholders and other U.S./Irish business leaders as well as attending several events with members of the Irish community.

There will also be events throughout the week to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

On Tuesday, Mr. Martin will attend a reception to launch the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland’s Annual Report.

On Wednesday, he will visit the New York Irish Center after which he will be at a reception for members of New York’s Irish community and NY-based Irish-American community organizations. That evening, the Tánaiste will attend the St. Patrick’s Day Foundation Annual Gala.

On Thursday, the Tánaiste will ring the Opening Bell at the NASDAQ with New York’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal Kevin Conway and parade officials. This event will be displayed on a screen in Times Square. The Tánaiste will also attend the Ireland U.S. Council St. Patrick’s Day Lunch.

On Friday, Mr. Martin will be in attendance at the New York City St Patrick’s Day parade and later that evening he will attend a performance by the Cross Border Orchestra in Carnegie Hall.

On Saturday, the Tánaiste will travel to Boston where he will address a John F Kennedy Library event marking St. Patrick’s Day, the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement and the 60th anniversary of President Kennedy’s visit to Ireland.

The week will come to an end on Sunday when the Tánaiste will meet Congressman Richard Neal in Holyoke before taking part in the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day parade.

He will also present the United States Ambassador to Ireland, Claire Cronin, with the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Ambassador Award. The Ambassador Award is presented to a person who has worked to promote the relationship between the people of the Republic of Ireland and the people of the United States.
