The building is as solid as they come but the finances are as fluid as, well, just about everyone else's these troubled times
The American Irish Historical Society in Manhattan has announced the launch of a GoFundMe.com site to assist in its fundraising in order to support day-to-day operations that have been impacted during the COVID-19 crisis.
“Just like so many other cultural institutions in New York and throughout the country, the American Irish Historical Society has seen its revenues impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. We have heard from many friends and supporters of Irish culture who want to help keep the AIHS a vibrant organization. The gofundme.com site is an easy method for anyone to support the work of the Society,” said Maureen Bateman, president of the AIHS.
“Making a contribution is an easy process where anyone who supports the work of the Society can go to the site and make a tax-deductible contribution. Whether it is $10 or $500, each contribution helps further the AHIS work as the organization that preserves and celebrates the American Irish experience,” Bateman said.
Added a release: The American Irish Historical Society has been a part of New York City’s cultural landscape for more than 100 years. As a precaution to help limit the spread of the COVID-19, along with numerous other NYC museums and cultural institutions, temporarily closed and canceled all public programming and events. The AIHS, like many other non-profit cultural organizations, depends on the revenue its scholarly and cultural events. To help offset its financial losses the AIHS created a GoFundMe Campaign, asking the public to help them help preserve and celebrate the American Irish experience and culture.
The American Irish Historical Society, founded in 1897 to inform the world of the achievements of the Irish in America, is today a national center of scholarship and public education. From its longtime home on New York’s Fifth Avenue, across from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Society serves as a focal point of the contemporary transatlantic Irish experience. The Society is a venerable location where current public issues are explored and where the great renaissance of Irish culture is celebrated in lectures, concerts, art exhibits and a literary journal.
