41 more people have died from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland bringing the overall death toll to 406.
548 more cases of the coronavirus have also been diagnosed in the Republic. In addition, a further 284 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed from the backlog of tests at a laboratory in Germany, RTE was reporting.
With the German figures included, there is now a total of 11,479 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland.
Of the 41 deaths reported today (Tuesday) 36 of these were in the east of the country, four were in the west ,and one was in the south. Of the 41 deaths, 25 were male and 16 were female. The median age of today's reported deaths is 85.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tony Holohan, said that 31 of the 41 people who died had underlying medical conditions.
He said that 83% of those who died had underlying conditions (338 of 406), and the median age with regard to these deaths is 82. 187 of the 406 deaths occurred in nursing home environments.
Added the RTE report: To date, 277 people have been admitted to Intensive Care Units to be treated for Covid-19. 160 people are still in ICU (58%), while 77 people (28%) have already been discharged. 40 patients died in ICU. The median age of people who are admitted to ICU is 60.
Meanwhile the North has reported ten more Covid-19 deaths. There has been 134 recorded hospital deaths there in relation to coronavirus. There are 85 new cases bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,967.
