Team Aisling gears up for official launch

The Aisling Irish Community Center in Yonkers will officially launch Team Aisling 2019 today, Friday, June 21 at J.P. Clarkes Bar in Yonkers.

The launch event will begin at 7 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend and for members already registered it is important to come by and pick up the first of three official team gear tops that will be revealed on the night, said a release.

Team Aisling was founded last year by the Aisling Center to connect the New York community with four goals: Fun, Fitness, Friendship and Fundraising.

“They have a hard working committee of Team Captains who have already managed to encourage over 260 people register this year and will exceed all expectations by Yonkers Marathon race day on October 20th,” stated the release.

“Anyone can join Team Aisling over the next four months and to participate you donate $100 to register and in return you get three official team gear tops.

“The next step is to register for Yonkers Marathon race day where you can walk, jog or run in either a 5k, half or full marathon. Celebrations follow later that day a Rory Dolan’s where Team Aisling host and after party to celebrate the achievements of their team. It’s all about bringing people together and having fun, why not get fit along the way.”

Team Aisling will introduce its ten sponsors on Friday night and “are beyond thankful for the support and generosity.’

The guest speakers on the evening are: Dublin-born Eimear Friel who arrived in New York last summer as Deputy Consul General of Ireland.

John Neary, born in Naas, County Kildare and grew up in Roscommon. He is a retired businessman, past-President of the New York Athletic Club, and an avid runner for the past thirty years. Neary has completed 27 marathons.

“Running is a great form of stress relief,” says John.

Jim Murphy from Woodlawn, a retired businessman and fellow member of the New York Athletic Club, is the third speaker.

He has completed fifteen marathons.

Jim states: “Everyone is on a high, what you get out of running is more than you put in.”
