The Outing the Past Irish LGBT history festival took place in the New York Irish Center this past Saturday, Feb. 16. (The festival will also be celebrated in Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Derry in the coming weeks.) The speakers included historians Dr. Brian Lacey and Marie Mulholland; Belfast City Councillor Jeffrey Dudgeon MBE, journalist Cahir O'Doherty and activist Anne Maguire. “The NYIC event was a roaring success, and the packed house listened raptly to aspects of Irish history which are usually suppressed or hidden from the public view,” the organizers said in a statement. “After the history presentations there was a very moving salute to Katheleen Walsh D'Arcy, the worthy recipient of the Lifetime Recognition Award in Pursuit of Social Justice. Tarlach Nepomuceno, Outing the Past's New York City coordinator and Dr. Jeff Evans, convener of the International OTP Festival, would like to thank Paul Finnegan and the amazing staff and volunteers of the New York Irish Center for hosting this event.
