The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Jersey Shore are making preparations for their 45th annual St. Patrick’s black tie awards dinner which will take place on Friday, March 9.

And this year the Sons will be honoring United Way President and CEO Timothy Hearne, Jr. as their Irishman of the Year.

The popular black tie event celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, said a release, promises to attract another sellout crowd, with proceeds from the dinner benefiting educational grants for deserving college bound high school seniors of Irish heritage and other charitable endeavors.

Irishman of the Year Tim Hearne is the grandson of three Irish Immigrants who came to America in the 1800s, said the release.

“During his time at United Way, Tim successfully transitioned the UWMOC to a community impact model and was very active in the rebuilding of Monmouth County after Superstorm Sandy, raising close to $7 million for the United Way Rebuild NJ program and the Monmouth County Long Term recovery Group.

“Under Tim’s leadership, the United Way organizations in Monmouth and Ocean County merged and announced a $1 million challenge grant, the largest gift to a United Way in the state.”

The Son’s Board of Trustees conferred the 2018 Order of St. Brendan Award on Dublin-born Ray O’Hanlon.

The Order of St. Brendan honors native born sons of Ireland “who have added to the luster of their Irish heritage here in the United States,” the release stated.
