Pupils cheer citizen Mary

They were cheering loudly from 6,000 miles away.

A teacher from Buncrana, County Donegal, has beeen sworn in as a U.S. citizen in front of a very special audience, her pupils.

Mary McKeever, who moved to the U.S. in 2000, underwent her citizenship ceremony in front of her fifth class pupils at St. Philip the Apostle in California, the Donegal Daily website reported.

The children's choir she founded, Celtic Voices, helped Mary to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" as she became a proud citizen.

More than 200 pupils watched McKeever take the oath of allegiance.
