Aloha on the St. Patrick's train

We should all have a ticket for this train.

A St. Patrick's Day train ride celebrating the influence of Irish and Celtic culture and history in Hawaii will roll out of the station on the island of Oahu this Saturday.

"We will dedicate the St. Patrick's Day train ride this year to Scots-Irishman James Campbell," said organizer of the ride, John Bond.

According to Bond, riders will learn about some famous Hawaiian-Irish, like Paniolo cowboy rodeo champion Ikua Purdy, and pioneer surfer and lifeguard, George Freeth, who won the Congressional Medal of Honor for life saving. they will also learn that King Kamehameha III chose St. Patrick's Day to be his official birthday.

The morning ride along the rails means that those on board can still make it to another celebration of the big Irish day - the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Waikiki.
