D.C. Hibs to convene

The members of the Washington area Ancient Order of Hibernians will be holding their biannual state convention on Saturday, September 10 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bowie, Maryland.

The convention and banquet theme will be "Let us meet at Barry Gate" this to commemorate the current efforts pf the AOH to erect a memorial honoring Commodore John Barry at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis.

"The D.C. Hibernians successfully initiated the efforts to erect a memorial at the U.S. Naval Academy honoring Commodore John Barry. Barry was the first commissioned officer of the navy under the Constitution. Besides the memorial, the pedestrian gate at the academy will soon be named "Barry Gate."

"That is why the theme this and soon the Academy's midshipmen will be echoing the same phrase," said past D.C. State Board President, John McInerney.
