St. Patrick's Day Memories: Eileen Ivers

One of the favorites was the privilege of performing at the White House on St. Patrick's Day, 1994. Later that night, in the East Room, a sing-song broke out. The highlight was Gerry Adams and John Hume joining us and arm in arm singing "The Town I Love So Well." Have you ever marched in the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade? As kids, we marched along with our old music school, The Martin Mulvihill School of Irish Music. We all loved Martin and felt so proud to play some tunes! Five essential Irish albums that should be part of everyone's music library: Old Hag You Have Killed Me by The Bothy Band; The Planxty Collection by Planxty; Michael Coleman 1891-1945 by Michael Coleman; Dolores Keane by Dolores Keane; War by U2. How much green do you wear on March 17th? Besides what is seen . . . I'll never tell.

Do you eat corned beef & cabbage on St. Patrick's Day? How about soda bread? Not a huge fan of cabbage, but I love soda bread and a cup of "tay." Favorite Irish film? "Some Mother's Son." Favorite Irish book? "Trinity" by Leon Uris. Favorite Irish song? With strong roots firmly planted in the county, I love singing along with "Green and Red of Mayo," by the Saw Doctors. Complete this sentence: The most Irish thing about me is . . . my pride of my heritage and love of the Irish traditions that have been handed down through the generations.
