Liberty Gaels Camogie Club is organizing a fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 24, at Rockland GAA, N.Y., to raise money and awareness for the women and children currently suffering in Afghanistan following the rapid takeover of the country by Taliban forces.
“As modern women living in New York who have the freedom and liberty of expression, thought and speech, we want to provide some humanitarian relief to the women of Afghanistan who have been stripped overnight of their right to education, work, and speech, their freedom of movement and expression, and their achievements, identity and culture,” Liberty Gaels said in a statement.
The fundraiser will take the form of "Paint & Sip" fundraiser at Rockland GAA Pavilion at 7:30 on the 24th (tickets $40), and we also have a corresponding official donation link here
All proceeds raised will be donated to Women for Afghan Women (www.womenforafghanwomen.org) a charity with an office in New York that strives to protect and promote the rights of oppressed Afghan women and girls in Afghanistan and New York, in an effort to help them pursue their individual potential to self-determination and representation in all areas of life.
“We can think of no better way to provide humanitarian aid to those in need than by women supporting women,” Liberty Gaels added. “We are blessed with the powerful female GAA community that we are a part of in the Tri-State area, and we look forward to raising awareness and attaining aid for those Afghan women that are less fortunate than us, but for who even the smallest donation will make a huge impact on their wellbeing and future prospects of survival.”
