Remembering A Civil Rights Giant

The Northern Ireland Civil Rights movement was inspired by the movement in America and this historical link was acknowledged back in 2014 when then Lord Mayor of Belfast and Irish Echo publisher, Máirtín Ó Muilleoir, presented Congressman Lewis with a Peace Ambassador Award, a salute to the congressman's literal front line role in the campaign for Civil Rights in the United States. Congressman Lewis was being eulogized today at his funeral in Atlanta, a solemn gathering attended by three former presidents, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton.
