A final program for government has been agreed between Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Green Party.

If passed by the parties’ memberships, it would see Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin serving as taoiseach until December 2022, RTE was reporting.

The role would then rotate and Leo Varadkar would become taoiseach again.

The result of the vote on the program for government by the members of Fianna Fáil, the Green Party and Fine Gael will be announced on Friday June, 26, the report stated.

If passed that would mean that the taoiseach would be elected on either Saturday, June 27 or Monday June, June 29 in the National Convention Centre.

Just how the Green Party, led by Eamon Ryan, will fare when it comes to ministerial departments has not yet been made clear.

Irish governments have been of the coalition variety before but the formal alignment of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael is something new and is what appears to be a final break with the century-old divide between the two parties rooted in Ireland’s Civil War.
