Boston, like most major U.S. cities, is in lockdown and residents should not expect any relief for some weeks.
That was the message today from Democratic Mayor Marty Walsh who told an online town hall meeting organized by the Boston Globe that “we’re probably in for another four, five, six weeks of what we’re going through today.”
Walsh’s prediction – he cautioned strongly against any premature end to social distancing – came as Massachusetts governor
Charlie Baker described the latest statewide death figures from the coronavirus as “staggering.
According to the Globe, Baker, a Republican, also urged residents to continue to visit hospitals for necessary treatment for other serious ailments and sought to assure the public that the health care system isn’t being overrun.
The sobering news from the Bay State came on the same day as Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, until recently a Democratic Party presidential candidate, revealed that her 86-year-old brother, Donald Reed Herring, a Vietnam veteran, had died from Covid-19.
