Dashing through the air

The kids didn’t need Rudolph and his reindeer pals. Instead they boarded a plane at Shannon Airport for an annual meet and greet with Santa at 15,000 feet. The “Santa Flights” - held over two days - have been a feature at Shannon for seven years and about 2000 children and their parents from all over Ireland get a chance to fly.

“It’s our way of saying thank you to the public for their support. Shannon is a special place at Christmas,” said the airport’s managing director, Andrew Murphy.

And indeed it is with so many returning through Shannon for an Irish festive season. The Santa Flights, for which this mom and her charges are getting ready for, also raise funds for charities. Photo by Arthur Ellis.
