New York next week could be the time and place for another meeting between Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and British Prime Minster Boris Johnson.

The Journal.ie was reporting today that the two leaders “have been in contact” and hope to meet each other in New York next week.

Varadkar is due to travel to New York to speak at the special UN Summit on Climate Action. He is then heading for Los Angeles for a visit based around trade, and the opening of a new Irish consulate in the city.

The Journal report stated that the “spotlight” was back on Johnson today after he was given a 12-day timeline to set out his Brexit plan by the Finland’s prime minister.

Tánaiste Simon Coveney, who will also be in New York next week, said the deadline given to Johnson “shows the level of frustration” in the EU.

Stated the report: “Finland’s prime minister Antti Rinne said he and French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday agreed the UK should give Europe a written copy of the proposals by the end of September.

“We both agreed that it is now time for Boris Johnson to produce his own proposals in writing – if they exist.

“If no proposals are received by the end of September, then it’s over,” Rinne told reporters after his meeting with Macron.”
