Irish Ambassador to Washington, Dan Mulhall, continued his visit to the western U.S. with a stop in Leadville, Colorado, deep in the Rocky Mountains. He visited the site of a planned new memorial which will recall the thousands of Irish who died in the city’s silver mines in the late 19th century. Construction of the new memorial will begin later this year. The memorial project is being led by Irish Network Colorado and is being funded under the Irish government’s Emigrant Support Program. The ambassador is pictured by the grave of one of those Irish miners whose name was Mullen.
