Bartender Bob Walsh kept a close eye in the background as friends Kevin McElduff, Joe Long, Artie Shea and Brian Sullivan gathered on Sunday, July 23, at the White Horse Tavern on Hudson Street, Manhattan, where they reminisced about growing up in their old neighborhood, the western section of Greenwich Village, which for generations was home to longshoremen and their families. Earlier, there was a well-attended "alumni" Mass at St. Veronica's Church on Christopher Street, which the Archdiocese of New York has closed, but which parishioners and others are campaigning to reopen.
