Urban isn't alone

Cops were more in evidence this year than in parade years.

Urban Outfitters is not alone among major retail corporations flogging clothing that many Irish and Irish Americans find degrading and offensive.

Walmart is also selling t-shirts this year that firmly link the Irish not just with drinking, but with drunkenness.

The company's website, while featuring many "Irish" clothing items that would be popular while causing no offense whatsoever, does include t-shirts with logos such as "Irish today, hungover tomorrow" and "Drink Til Yer Irish."

Urban Outfitters has been under pressure from the Ancient Order of Hibernians - with a letter from AOH National President, Seamus Boyle, to the company's CEO, Richard Hayne - calling for the withdrawal of the offending items from stores and the company's online site.

In the letter, Boyle expressed his "great displeasure" and stated that he had been forced to write "and ask that you immediately remove the disgusting products you have for sale in your stores depicting the Irish as Drunks and defaming the Irish Nation and the Patron Saint of Ireland, St Patrick."

As of presstime Tuesday, the items that have aroused AOH ire were still being sold on the Urban Outfitters website.
