Before Oscar, there was Wilde

The US-Ireland Alliance hosted its 7th annual Oscar Wilde Awards on Thursday, February 23, in Santa Monica, California. the gathering was a lead-in to the Oscar Awards on Sunday.

Three Academy Award nominees, John Logan, Melissa McCarthy and Michelle Williams, were honored at the ceremony, which took place at J.J. Abrams Santa Monica production company, Bad Robot.

Attending the ceremony was George Mitchell, former U.S. Senator and President Clinton's Special Envoy to Northern Ireland, for whom the US-Ireland Alliance named its Mitchell Scholarship Program. Also there on the night was Oscar nominee Kenneth Branagh who was an award presenter.

Previous recipients of the Oscar Wilde Awards include Jim Sheridan, Neil Jordan, David Holmes, Terry George, Van Morrison, Bill Monahan, James L. Brooks, Fiona Shaw, Colm Meaney, Hylda Queally, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Brendan Gleeson, J.J. Abrams, Saoirse Ronan, Seamus McGarvey, Sarah Bolger, Paul Rudd, and Ros and John Hubbard.
