A congressional committee wants to know more about efforts by the Trump Organization to secure government funding for employees at its Doonbeg golf resort in County Clare, and also its two courses in Scotland.

According to a report in the Guardian, the demand for information follows reports last month that the Trump Organization was seeking Irish and UK bailout funds to cover wages of employees who had been furloughed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the report, in a letter to Eric Trump, the president’s son and vice president of the Trump Organization, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, the Democratic chairwoman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, suggested the decision to seek funding was problematic and potentially a violation of the U.S. constitution, which calls for a president to have undivided loyalty to the United States.

Rep. Maloney’s New York district covers portions of Manhattan and Queens.

Maloney, in her letter to Eric Trump, calls for the delivery by May 21 of “all documents and communications relating to the Trump Organization’s application for any loans or other funds from any domestic or foreign government entity.”

The Guardian report suggested that the demand for documents might not necessarily be met as the Trump administration “has refused previous demands for information, in defiance of congressional authority.”

With regards to Doonbeg, the Trump Organization has petitioned the Irish government for assistance under the wage subsidies scheme. As such, any money received would be destined for employees of the County Clare resort.
