Essex Friendly Sons ready for 50th annual gathering

The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh in Essex County, New Jersey, are gathering Saturday evening, May 5 for their 50th annual dinner dance.

The standout celebration will be at Mayfair Farms in West Orange and the honorees, who are the Shillelagh Men of the Year, are Kenneth “Karl” Burke of West Caldwell and Michael Tevlin of Livingston. Both are past presidents of the Friendly Sons Essex Division.

What is the golden anniversary gala, said a release, is being held in honor of the Knox family and founder of the Shillelagh Club, Harry Knox.

The Friendly Sons are one of the premier Irish organizations in New Jersey and the Tri-State area, noted the release.

The West Orange-based Essex division own its own clubhouse and it is accessible to a range of Irish American organizations. The Sons are also active on behalf of a number of charitable causes.
