Conor McGregor has squared himself off with the ultimate justice system.
He might not win this one.
The mixed martial arts fighter turned himself into the NYPD after going on a rampage at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn.
He has been charged with three counts of assault and criminal mischief and was making an appearance in a Brooklyn court Friday morning after being escorted there in handcuffs by detectives.
McGregor, 29, and his friend Cian Cowley, 25, turned themselves in to the NYPD’s 78th Precinct in Park Slope on Thursday night, the New York Post reported.
The paper, citing the NYPD, reported that the Dublin ultimate fighter had thrown a metal barricade at a bus after a press conference at Barclays hyping Saturday’s UFC lightweight fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Max Holloway.
The outburst allegedly was caused by McGregor’s anger over the news he would be stripped of his lightweight championship after the fight between the other contenders.
Cowley, a member of McGregor’s considerable entourage, was charged with assault and criminal mischief.
Added the Post report: “The 29-year-old Irishman, whose nickname is ‘The Notorious,’ appeared worried as he was escorted from the 78th Precinct in Prospect Heights to a waiting police car, his hands cuffed behind him.
The incredible scene at the Barclay Center was recorded on a phone and was widely shown in subsequent TV news reports.
Later on Friday the court set bail of $50,000 for McGregor and $25,000 for Cowley. The next court appearance was set for June 14.
