Irish runners, older and younger, will be competing at the Millrose Games in Manhattan this Saturday, February 3.
And Millrose hero and seven time Wanamaker Mile champion, Eamonn Coghlan, will be on hand to cheer them on.
The NBC nationally-televised meet takes place from 11.45 a.m. to 6 p.m. at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center in Washington Heights.
In the elite/professional side of the meet, Ireland will have a couple of track and field standouts, including Sean Tobin in the Men’s Mile Invitational. Tobin is the 2017 Irish 1500 meters champion.
Ciara McGeehan will be competing in the Women’s Wanamker Mile.
And there will be a very young Irish runner taking to the boards as well.
Dermot McDermott from Sligo oversees the hundreds of 8-year-old boy and girl sprinters who compete across Ireland to qualify for the Millrose Games.
This year, Ireland is sending Mila Clancy from Gurteen in South Sligo to compete in the Road Runners “Fastest Kid in the World” event at the games.
Last year’s boys’ representative from Ireland won the event, which then was called the NYRR Fastest Kid on the Block. Now the event has been upgraded to the Fastest Kid in the World.
There will also be an Irish girls’ high school 4x200 relay team competing in Saturday’s meet.
Millrose Meet Director, Longford native Ray Flynn, will also be on hand to make sure that all the races run as smoothly as possible - as well as quickly.
Nashville-based Flynn was recently elected to the RTE/Irish Sports Hall of Fame.
