Old pipes need a tune-up

America’s oldest working pipe organ, the 1868 Henry Erben organ, built by Irish (and German) immigrants in lower Manhattan, was paid a visit today by Irish Consul General in New York Barbara Jones. Located in the Basilica of Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Mott Street, the organ is in dire need of a comprehensive and historically accurate restoration and the Consul General’s visit was part of the effort to draw attention to the restoration project.
