Throwback Thursday

Sixty years ago today

John F. Kennedy is pictured here at the Irish Institute of New York on January 12, 1957, 60 years ago today. He is flanked by Sean P. Keating and Paul O’Dwyer. Keating was the Master of Ceremonies at the Institute event attended by the future president, while O’Dwyer was the President-elect of the Institute that year. At the gala event, Keating introduced JFK as “the next President of the United States,” thus informally kicking off JFK’s presidential campaign. It is believed that this was the first time that JFK was so introduced to a gathering. Photo courtesy Matt Larkin.
