By Irish Echo Staff

The Ancient Order of Hibernians of Rockland County have selected Dermot Moore as Grand Marshal for their 2016 St. Patrick’s Day Parade to be held on Sunday, March 20.

The parade, held in Pearl River, is considered to be the second largest in the tri-state area, said a release from the parade organizers.

Mr. Moore is the son of former New York City Parade Grand Marshal and noted Irish American historian, Mary Holt Moore.

A former NYPD Detective Sergeant and currently a vice president in corporate security, Moore is the president of AOH Division 3 Pearl River which, with 700 members, is the largest division of the organization in the United States.

Mr. Moore, said the release, is a particularly apt choice for this centenary year of the 1916 Rising as he is related to one of the Rising’s leaders Sean Mac Diarmada, and also a distinguished veteran of the fight for Irish freedom and author of the song “Wrap the Green Flag Around Me,” Sam O’Reilly.

Mr. Moore will receive his grand marshal’s sash at the Rockland County Emerald Ball to be held at the Pearl River Hilton on February 27.

Also honored on the night will be well known traditional musician and teacher, Margie Mulvihill, as Business Woman of the Year, Neil Cosgrove as Hibernian of the Year, Kevin Donohue as Rockland aide to this year’s New York City Parade Grand Marshal, Senator George Mitchell, and Detective Cyril P. Kerr as Parade Commander.
