An even darker solstice

The passage grave in Newgrange, County Meath is the place to be as dawn breaks on December 21. As the sun rises its rays shine through the passage leading to the main chamber in the 5,000-year-old burial mound. Unfortunately, as this photo carried by RTE shows, the sun was obscured by cloud this morning, thus making the year’s shortest day seem even shorter.
