Downes takes his leave

Larry Downes, since the group's founding in 1995 the president of the Friends of Sinn Féin in the U.S., has stepped down from the post and will be succeeded by longtime political activist and advocate, Jim Cullen.

The change at the top of FOSF was announced in a press release Tuesday by Sinn Féin party president, Gerry Adams.

"Sinn Féin is indebted to Larry for his 17 years of service. He is a valued and trusted friend whose advice, guidance and commitment is deeply appreciated," said Adams

"I am very pleased that Jim Cullen is to take up this post. He has worked closely with Larry Downes for many years and I am confident that he will continue with the work that Larry started as the first FOSF president," Adams added.
