In the annual Barra Ó Donnabháin Memorial Lecture on this coming Saturday at Glucksman Ireland House, NYU, Prof. Alan Titley of University College Cork examines the way in which the Irish language has been largely ignored in the histories of Ireland and how our version of Ireland might be quite different if Irish-language sources were utilized fully.

The annual lecture was established in 2006 in honor of O Donnabháin, a beloved and influential teacher and advocate of the language, who was originally from Leap, Co. Cork. He emigrated in 1963 after graduating with a degree in Irish and Latin from UCC. He was for many years a columnist with the Echo.

The event begins at 7 p.m. For more information about it and
