McCarthy fired by Wolves

Former Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy is out of a job again. He was fired by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday morning following the weekend's 5-1 drubbing at home at the hands of fellow strugglers West Bromwich Albion. McCarthy, a Yorkshire native who played 57 times for Ireland and was manager for six years, brought Wolves into the Premiership two years ago, and the team, which includes Irish stars Stephen Hunt, Stephen Ward and Kevin Doyle, narrowly escaped relegation last season. They are facing a fierce battle to stay up again this season. Former Wolves and England manager Graham Taylor said Monday that the chairman, Steve Morgan, had "undermined" McCarthy by entering the dressing room to criticize the players after a recent defeat to Liverpool. "He damaged Mick's relationship with the squad," Taylor told the BBC.
