Another young GAA star has died in a suspected case of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS).

Ciaran Carr (20), from Clondalkin, County Dublin, died suddenly as he was training with his local Round Towers GAA Club on Friday, January 20.

Carr was participating in an indoor circuit training session when he suddenly fell forward and collapsed.

Carr, a sports management student of Inchicore College, was a star of both hurling and football and had recently been selected for the Dublin U-21 team. A minute's silence was observed on Sunday at the Dublin versus Kildare O'Byrne Cup clash in Newbridge in his memory.

Ciaran Carr is the latest of seemingly healthy sportsmen suspected to have died from SADS. In 2004, All-Ireland winning footballer Cormac McAnallen died suddenly. An awareness campaign was launched shortly after. Days into the new year, Jason Morley, a footballer from County Mayo, was found dead at his home.

Teammate and friend Alan Milton said Ciaran's parents Peter and Gemma were "devastated" over the death of their only child.

"They are being very brave. He was a happy-go-lucky man, he always went around with a smile on his face," he said.

"His passion was football and hurling. He joined Round Towers when he was about four years of age with a hurley in his hand. Ciaran was a great ambassador for the club and for his family," Milton said.
