Suspect nabbed in Queens hit and run

NYPD detectives have arrested a man suspected in a deadly wrong-way crash that killed popular Queens bar owner George Gibbons last month.

Detectives had been on the hunt for Peter Rodriguez and a $10,000 reward had been posted for information leading to his arrest.

The crash occurred around 6:45 a.m. on Oct. 15 after the 37-year-old Gibbons closed up his "Gibbon's Home" bar in Maspeth. He was in a cab on the way home when it was struck by another car driving the wrong way on a service road for the Long Island Expressway.

An NYPD spokesman confirmed Tuesday that Rodriguez, 36, had been located in Connecticut on Tuesday morning and that detectives from the Regional Fugitive Task Force and local police had taken him into custody.

Rodriguez was expected to be brought back to New York City as early as Tuesday night, the spokesman said.
