Undefeated all season with a 100 percent record, New York Greek-American/Atlas finally met their match in the CSL top flight last Sunday after a 1-1 draw with Lansdowne Bhoys at Tibbets Brook Park.

Swedish ace Johannes Grahn's late leveler [70th] salvaged a much-deserved point for Lansdowne in a match that both sides agreed the Bhoys dominated. Chris Megaloudis, a Puerto Rican international recently involved in the Island's 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, had shot the Greeks ahead in the 25th minute

"This is a great result considering the Greeks had not dropped a point all season," remarked Lansdowne coach Kevin Grogan, alluding to Atlas' 8-0 [24 pts.] record in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League going into the match.

"We had a lot of good chances. A draw is a fair result," he added, pleased at what he called his lads' "professional reaction" to the 2-0 loss to New York Croatia the previous week.

The result also left Atlas GM George Mellis sighing with relief.

"Lansdowne hit the post three times in the first half," Mellis noted. "Michael Todd [Atlas player-coach] missed a wide open chance at the end of the first half that could have made it 2-0. Lansdowne were the better team. They should have won."

The Bronx Irish are now 4-2-3 [15] in the Eastern Conference, two points behind leaders Barnstonworth Rovers who had no game at the weekend.

Atlas, now 8-0-1 [25], lead the West.

GROGAN STARS

The Lansdowne boss, a former Manchester United youth player, scored one of two penalties awarded to his reserves in a 2-1 win over Atlas' second unit. Shane Moore converted the other.

"He played upfront as a target man. It was our best performance all season," said Aiden Corr, offering props to Grogan.

Atlas brought on some of their first team players down the stretch in search of an equalizer, but the Lansdowne seconds held on.

METRO WIN

Earlier at Tibbets, Darren McDermott and Anto Toner connected in the Lansdowne thirds' 2-1 defeat of Barnstonworth Rovers in a Metro Div. II fixture.

ROCKY TIMES

Shamrock's travails continue in the Second Division where they crashed 5-0 to Stal Mielec at McCarren Park. It was their ninth loss in ten matches.

The Shamrock reserves put up a fight before succumbing 3-2.
