Shamrock Rovers can retain their League of Ireland premier division title on Monday next when they play UCD at Belfield. The Students have proved a handful for Rovers in recent meetings, but if Rovers win on Monday night the League is theirs. The Hoops moved on to 71 points last week, four clear of Sligo Rovers when they beat Derry City 1-0 in Tallaght. The UCD game is being played on Monday night to give Rovers time to recover from their trip to Greece tomorrow to play PAOK Salonika in the Europa League. Even if Rovers slip up against UCD on Monday, they should get the points needed to win the title when they play lowly Galway United in Tallaght on Friday week. Derry City beat Galway 4-0 on Sunday to move on to 66 points, just one behind Sligo Rovers and with two games to be played the Candystripes could yet overtake Sligo for second place.

Meanwhile Sligo qualified for the FAI Cup Final for the second year in a row when they beat Bohemians 1-0 at Dalymount Park on Sunday. Jason McGuinness, a former Bohemians player, got the goal that sent Sligo into the final. Sligo will now meet either Shelbourne or St Patrick's Athletic in this year's final at the Aviva Stadium on Nov. 6. The Saints and Shels drew 1-1 at Tolka Park in the first of the semifinals on Friday night.

New Cork manager Jimmy Barry Murphy has recalled Seán Og O hAilpin to the Cork hurling squad for next year. O hAilpin will be 35 next May, but obviously Barry Murphy feels that his experience will be of benefit as he tries to get Cork back into the winning habit in 2012.
