Kilkenny delivers strategic vision

The charity group SightSavers International held its annual general meeting recently in New York with Irish Consul General Noel Kilkenny delivering a keynote address.

SightSavers is an international charity which works to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote equality of opportunity for disabled people in the developing world.

SightSavers, according to a release, has a strong history of raising funds in Ireland to help children and adults in need. More recently, however, SightSavers has been focusing on North America as a source of partnership and strategic growth.

At the recent New York gathering, Consul General Kilkenny, provided guidance to SightSavers on the best approach in the U.S. with regard to brand awareness, funding structures and the value of the Irish American community.

"SightSavers is vital to the health and well-being of over 15 million people worldwide. We are delighted to engage with the Consul General to help us to craft better strategies," vice president of the SightSavers board of directors, Ann-Marie Walshe, said.

Last year we supported 6,315 children who are visually impaired to attend mainstream schools. We are constantly developing innovative fundraising techniques. We are proud of the work that we do and we feel that America is the next big challenge in extending that work for the benefit of those people in need whom we are so proud to serve," Walshe added.
