US Airways has opened up a new Charlotte, North Carolina service to Dublin that will augment its existing flights to Ireland out of Philadelphia.
The new service is seasonal and will run from May to the end of September. The new route will be flown by Boeing 757 aircraft.
US Airways is hoping that by next year 50,000 passengers will use the Charlotte to Dublin route during the summer months. Charlotte is a major hub for the carrier and will offer a wide range of flight transfers to passengers arriving from Ireland.
The new route also opens up more of the American south to Ireland’s tourism sector, and comes on the heels of the opening of a new Irish consulate in Atlanta, Georgia.
US Airways cited the availability of full immigration and customs pre-clearance facilities for departing passengers to the U.S. from Dublin airport’s new Terminal 2 as a prime reason behind its decision to launch the new service.
