Women’s Soccer Gilligan’s, Fiona’s for Shield final

Gilligan’s reached the second Shield final of the year in a good exciting game.

On 10 minutes, Gilligan’s went forward with a ball from Teresa Doyle to Olivia Murphy who passed it to Catherine Donohue whose shot went inches wide.

On 15 minutes, Fagan’s went forward with a throw-in taken by Justine Clifford which went to Alison Leydon whose shot went just over the bar.

On 20 minutes Gilligan’s went forward with a ball from Frances Brennan to Melissa Peskin who crossed to Olivia Murphy whose shot was well saved by the keeper. On 25 minutes, Gilligan’s won a corner. Melissa Peskin took it, the ball came across, and Teresa Doyle headed in to the back of the net, 1-0 to J.J. Gilligan’s. A shot from Fiona Fallon was well saved by Caroline Murphy.

The second-half started with Fagan’s going forward with a ball from Caroline Conway to Monica Slevin who passed to Justine Clifford whose shot went over the bar.

On 45 minutes, Gilligan’s went forward with a ball from Melissa Peskin to Teresa Doyle. She took the ball down and buried it to the back of the net, 2-0 to J.J. Gilligan’s.

On 55 minutes Fagan’s went forward with a ball from Justin Clifford to Fiona Fallon who buried it in the back of the net, 2-1 to J.J. Gilligan’s who held out for the victory.

Best for J.J. Gilligan’s: Frances Brennan, Teresa Doyle, Deirdre O’Sullivan.

Best for Fagan’s: Fiona Fallon, Alison Leydon, Monica Slevin.

Fiona’s 3, Velocity 0

The first of the winter league Shield semi-finals was a good tight game. On 10 minutes, Fagan’s went forward with a ball from Cira Ferry to Amy Molloy. She took her shot which was well saved.

On 15 minutes Velocity went forward with a throw in from Regina Nejman to Julie Stiles who passed to Duffy Connolly whose shot went over the bar.

On 20 minutes, Fiona’s won a corner taken by Marie Curran, the ball fell to Amy Molloy who flicked it in, 1-0 to Fiona’s.

On 28 minutes Fiona’s won a corner taken by Erin Treacy. The ball came across, Amy Molloy jumped and headed it in to the net, 2-0 to Fiona’s.

The second half started with Velocity going forward. A ball from Judith Stiles went to Laura Rizzo who crossed the ball and Duffy Connolly headed it. It was well saved.

On 45 minutes, Fiona’s went forward. Cira Ferry got the ball and passed to Amy Ryan who flicked it on to Ashling Berrill who buried it to the back of the net, 3-0 to Fiona’s.

On 60 minutes, Velocity tried to get one back with a ball from Judith Stiles to Julie Stiles whose shot was well saved.

Final score, 3-0 to Fiona’s.

Best for Fiona’s: Cira Ferry, Marie Curran, Rosie Downey.

Best for Velocity: Julia Stiles, Laura Rizzo, Regina Nevman.
