Ireland’s women’s national team succumbed 5-0 to world champions USA before 30,000 fans in Foxboro, Mass., last Saturday, on a day when everything went wrong for Irish soccer.

Tiffany Milbrett won MVP honors with a goal in each half and an assist on Julie Foudy’s 38th minute strike. Sara Whalen (59th), Joy Fawcett (71st) and Kristine Lilly (75th) were the other scorers.

The Irish women were not overly disappointed by the rout in the Olympic Games preparatory game.

"You want to play in front of crowds like this and be able to deal with it," said midfielder Sonya Maher. "This is what you dream of."

The friendly was the United States’ first match since their World Cup final
