The organizers of the fair, set for the upcoming weekend at Keyspan Park, Coney Island, had gathered several of this year’s honorees for a press conference outlining details of the attractions and entertainment that patrons can expect over the two-day event.
One of the honorees on hand for the Borough Hall gathering was this year’s Chief Brehon, Michael Benn.
“I’m very proud and honored to have been selected,” said Benn while adding that the fair was an important part of the task of preserving and promoting Irish culture.
This year’s Colleen Queen, Ciara McCone, said that she was looking forward to her presiding over the fair. McCone hopes to follow her attorney father Cody McCone into a legal career.
“I hope to become a lawyer to help the less fortunate,” she said.
The fair runs Saturday and Sunday Sept. 20 and 21, from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Irish American Building Society Charities and proceeds from the event will go to Brooklyn-Queens Diocese Catholic schools.
This year’s fair will include a separate amusement and entertainment area for children, Irish food and dancing and live sets by musicians including the Screaming Orphans, Andy Cooney and 2U, a U2 tribute band.
