New exhibits will feature the voices of the Irish immigrant Feeley family, who lived at 918 Lemmon Street in 1863.
Visitors will also “meet” Father Edward McGolgan of St. Peter’s Church as he greets the newly arrived family, overhear pub conversation and the immigrant couple chatting about the day’s events as they prepare for bed.
By picking up photographic images, visitors will hear actual diary accounts of horrific experiences aboard coffin ships as immigrants made their long journey across the Atlantic.
According to a release, the new exhibits support the mission of the Irish Shrine by commemorating the experiences of Baltimore’s over 60,000 Irish immigrants and offering a glimpse into their everyday lives in the 19th century.
The museum site consists of a group of five alley houses that were once occupied by Irish immigrants who worked for the nearby B&O Railroad.
Two of the houses, 918 and 920 Lemmon Street, have been restored. Details at www.irishshrine.org.
